Pregnant star defends dyed The reality star took to her blog today to defend her decision, writing, did research about doing anything to the color of my hair while pregnant and followed all of the guidelines from my doctor and took the proper precautions necessary. I highlighted my hair, which is considered the safest form of hair color while pregnant, and not to the root, so nothing ever touched my scalp. I also used products that did not contain any ammonia. what BabyCenter has to say about dying your hair during pregnancyWhile some readers gushed over her fab new look and admitted to dying their own hair while pregnant, Kourtney explanation didn put a stop to the outrage entirely.mother would expose their unborn baby to any risk just for the sake of beauty or boredom with their look? wrote one reader.would never have colored my hair while pregnant. There are enough chemicals around us that we can not avoid so I wouldn't expose myself or the child to even more. Selfish but why would that surprise anyone about a Kardashian family member?! added another.I dye my hair a few times a year damn you, greys! but I didn while I was pregnant. On my list of pregnancy taboos, though, it fell way down near the bottom: I didn see it as a huge health risk, but just figured it was something I could pretty easily skip for nine months. And I wonder how many moms used to continue to get their hair done in the former decades and had their children turn out alright? She did the research and made a decision for it just like many of us did the research for whatever we wanted to do/not do and made our decision.People just jumped at the opportunity to put down someone else that didn do things exactly how they did it because it a celebrity that seems to make it more justifiable in their eyes.I don dye my hair; but I used to use relaxers/straighteners and I stopped before I was pregnant. Not really big on going to the salon and fussing with my hair I sure did get a few pedis. Which one is worse? It sounds like she didn really do anything unhealthful or dangerous to her baby it sounds like people are trying to find something else to bash a Kardashian about.I never dyed my hair when I was pregnant but I did get it cut and styled. One book I had mentioned that when pregnant women feel the need to change their looks in one way or another, it because they are subconsciously trying to not look or seem pregnant. I don know how much truth there is to that, but after I got my hair cut, I was almost regretful!! It was weird! This argument is so stupid! I was a hairstylist for my first two pregnancies, so what do people think of me coloring other people hair for all 9 months both times? Should I have just quit my job and gone broke? Getting your hair colored in a well ventilated, professional setting is perfectly safe. Doesn anyone think about those IN the profession when they weighing the safety of the chemicals used? Yes, there were certain chemical treatments I wouldn perform while pregnant (keratin treatments are an example), but professional hair color is so mild these days, you taking more of a risk cleaning your bathroom! So silly comment >I six months pregnant and haven dyed my hair since before I was pregnant. My doctor has said it fine, but I still feel a little uneasy about it and decided to just live with the gray for another few months. Got a nice haircut that covered a lot of it instead. Even though I am making the choice not to do it I think people are reacting pretty harshly to what Kourtney did and I pretty sure there are plenty of celebrities who are dyeing their hair while pregnant I don see a lot of gray hairs or roots on pregnant women on the red carpet.I a physician pregnant with my first child. I have read just about everything I can get my hands on relating to the health of my baby, from medical journals to pregnancy blogs. I often find that the most judgmental and opinionated bloggers are often those with no medical knowledge outside of having been pregnant themselves. It fine for anyone to abstain from whatever they want during their pregnancy, but they should not chastise another woman for doing differently, especially when doctors agree it is safe. That being said, I have an appointment to get my hair highlighted in 2 weeks. There is no medical reason why I shouldn But I sure someone out there, likely without an MD, will judge me for it.I am 3 months pregnant and I admitt it freely I highlight my hair, but I don drink coffee or soda, or even eat fatty foods. My research and my doctor said highlighting my hair is just fine. It dying your full head of hair and having the dye soak into your scalp that they caution about. Even though no studies have even shown dying your full head of hair can cause any damage, people should really do their research before criticizing someone else. You have more risk being an overweight mom or being an over 30 mom than a young mom who highlights her hair, don believe me it:)I not a big Kardashian fan and think Kourtney, while defending herself unnecessarily in the media, did nothing wrong dying her hair. Unfortunately, there are too many uneducated people out there who insist they are experts, when they are not! Btw, it is also safe to drink moderate amounts of caffeine and red wine while pregnant oops, best to protect those little baby ears out there! There are many many brands of hair color out there that do not contain ammonia or formaldehyde that are safe for expecting moms an many docs will confirm this. I bet the complainers don paint their nails either. Ladies, this is a time to embrace your femininity you can still do that in a safe way, so why criticize those who want to make the most of this time? Mind your own business. When I got pregnant I had the misfortune of having bright, fire engine red hair. Lovely for crazy artistic 25 year old, not so cool looking when it started to grow out. I talk to my midwife, I talked to my colorist, I looked online and read every thing I could possibly find on dyeing my hair while pregnant and from what I found if you use ammonia free dye in a well ventilated area and it after your 1st trimester, you are fine. I now have nice lovely brown hair that grew in the same color as my roots and I haven touched it since. I don see what the big deal is and I think people should stop pointing the finger at Kourtney. She obviously looked into this before she did it and found it found out it was ok. It not like they found her doing drugs or any other crazy thing like that.I think she should do what she wants! I colored my hair every other month to several different colors. I did this for so long I have forgotten my natural color. I cut my hair short before I found out i was pregnant. I want to re dye my hair again but the stuff I use Has harsh Chemicals in it. My husband says he likes my natural color that has been growing out so I plan on not dyeing it again until I cannot stand it any longer then I will look into safer Dyes. But I read somewhere that giving into some of the bad things you crave (not including drugs and alcohol) Is not always a bad thing so long as it is moderated. So I say go for it! Personally I applaud her for addressing the haters and explaining herself. Frankly I would have told them to jump of a bridge comment >Jennifer, Boy 2 Landon due April says:What is the big deal! I have been a hairdresser for 17 yrs. We have heard it all. I remember when people freaked out about the sodium lareth sulfate in shampoo how it can cause cancer. Well it in toothpaste too people. Anything that sudz up probably has it in it. Thats why they making sodium free shampoo, hense salt pulls out our natural keratin. I color my hair for grey coverage then foil. If women just foil that is great color doesn touch scalp. So if your doctor is very strict, thats a good point to bring up. For those out there who think to much about, our paranoid, they do make cellophanes by sebastian. They do cover some grey, it a vegetable rinse, lasts 6 8 weeks. Food for thought. Unless we all live like quakers, get rid of all technology, electronics, grow organic, cook it. Which is a full timejob. Worrying about this will get us sick.Let me start by saying I am not a Kardashian fan. I think they are talentless whores. That been said, even though I would LOVE to point out something Kourtney did wrong, she didnt. Any idiot that does any research would find out that dying your hair once during a pregnancy, especially if you take extra precaution is not going to harm your baby at all. Actually, things like face wash and shampoo have chemicals that when put on your body over the course of 9 months can do more harm than dying your hair once or twice.I read many different Yahoo articles about myths debunked and one of them was about pregnancy myths. The truth about dying your hair is that your body may react to the dyes differently, still safe, but your hair might not take the color the way it normally would. It about the hormonal changes, not about risk to the baby. I am only choosing NOT to dye my hair, purely because I already gone a year and 4 months without dying it what a few more months of my old hair color? Nothing wrong with her dying her hair.wow don think highlights are bad, it not like it was touching her scalp. Furthermore, it is probably worse using household cleaners daily/weekly and not being cautious about inhaling the fumes. My doctor said it was fine, an all the baby books I read said it was fine too as long as it is not touching your scalp (plus your skin is sometimes more sensitive when preggo too). Now I think drinking is bad, wonder if those people criticizing her for that drink. You may get a slight buzz, but your baby tiny liver has to process the same amount and can be drunk off of a small amount.
